His hard-nosed and heady playing style earned him All-VSAC honors twice, a spot on the All VSAC Tournament Team, named All-District 24, along with the VSAC Player of the Year award in 1964. In 1965, Marlin was named Honorable mention All-American.

Alsup was also a member of the historic 1965 team under Coach Wayne Dobbs that upset Western Kentucky University in year two of E. A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky.

His 1,332 career points ranks 26th all-time on the Bruins' scoring list. Moreover, Alsup's 20.0 points per game career scoring average is fourth all-time.
